CASE STUDY – Hospitality Client, Retaining Wall
Project # 1936: Blues Point Hotel Retaining Wall

Green-core was contracted by a repeat client, DBL Pub Group, at the end of 2019 to carry out remediation works to the retaining wall between the pub and the adjacent property to remove the load from the existing sandstone wall.
The client had been issued with a Works Order by North Sydney Council and was required to carry out the remediation works urgently. Green-core liaised with Council and local residents to agree on a programme for the works, minimising inconvenience to the neighbours whilst not interfering with the pub operations.
The programmed works took place from June to August 2020 and the scope of works included:
• Relocation of existing plant
• Demolition, excavation
• Hydraulic works including installation of the new grease arrestor
• New concrete footing and retaining wall
• Reinstatement of the concrete slab
• Repointing of the sandstone wall
The project was complex because of the age of the retaining wall and involved demolition and excavation, concreting, bricklaying, plumbing, traffic control, blockwork, and painting to deliver the works as required by Council.
The client, DBL Pub Group, was provided with weekly photo reports outlining the detailed description of works and progress of construction to facilitate communication and successful project delivery.
“One of the main challenges during the project delivery was to carry out demolition and excavation works in close proximity to the existing sandstone retaining wall, and with restricted access for machinery”, says Daniel Ross, Senior Project Manager at Green-core.
